89 Prelude 2.0Si won't start when hot (sometimes!)
Question:
>>absolutly no sign of a spark. This occurs very intermittently >but only on a cold start on a very warm day or on a very >warm day when it has been running but has been off for >a short while.
I have a ‘89 Honda Civic and it also does this. It’s frustrating sometimes but we always get it started and it is pretty intermittent. You might want to do a Dejanews search of this newsgroup. I did and found several posts regarding this problem. I would pass along a summary but I haven’t had time to read through them all. I do remember someone mentioning a relay that they replaced that fixed it.
Response:
Replacing the Main Relay fixed the problem in my ‘89 Prelude Si. Jim Z

My 92 Prelude Si does the exact same thing! Works fine for dealer. They are clueless.
Response:
Have you actually seen that there is no spark, or are you just guessing because it doesn’t fire off? Rob
Response:
Try the main relay as someone has suggested. I’ve had that problem with my accord but have remedied it with a manual cooling fan switch which seems to work. >Does any one have a guess at a very intermittent problem I >am having with my 89 Prelude. Does any one have a guess at a very intermittent problem I am having with my 89 Prelude. Normally the car starts very quickly after only the slightest amount of starter crank. Very rarely you try to start it and it cranks normally but there is absolutly no sign of a spark. This occurs very intermittently but only on a cold start on a very warm day or on a very warm day when it has been running but has been off for a short while. Thanks, Steve
